The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust is a registered charity based just outside of Altrincham.  Each year they throw a lifeline to children living with difficulties most of us couldn’t comprehend - providing holidays, day trips and Christmas parties to children from all over our region.  These children have a huge variety of needs but have one thing in common – they are in desperate need of a break.  The children have a wide range of needs, a significant number have complex needs and medical issues, life-limiting or terminal illnesses.  Many have mobility difficulties, communication disorders, learning disabilities or sensory impairments.  For these children and their families, life can be stressful and relentless, a never-ending routine of hospital appointments and specialist care.  The disabled/ill child, their siblings and parents can all suffer isolation and it can be a huge challenge to engage in mainstream activities and social events.

Other children visiting the Adventure Farm have no physical limitations but come from the most deprived communities.  Most of us would be shocked to learn of living conditions in our neighbouring communities, families barely surviving on shockingly low incomes who are often hidden from sight but are in need our support.  CAFT also supports children who act as Carers and those who have suffered bereavement, as well as those who have sadly been victims of sexual, emotional or physical abuse - young, vulnerable children who have been exposed to a dark and very adult world.

The charity’s main activity is the provision of weeklong holidays for groups of children from local schools, charities and hospices.  These holidays are provided free of charge and take place at their 10 acre site. During their holiday the children take part in a bespoke programme of activities, making full use of the charity’s amazing site.  Activities include sports, arts, crafts, sensory play and music.  But the stars of the show must surely be their fantastic animals!  Whilst the Adventure Farm isn’t a working farm any more, they do have some adorable furry friends which provide important therapy for the visiting children – including miniature donkeys, pygmy goats, alpacas, ducks, budgies, quail and pheasants.  Animals don’t judge, they don’t care if you look different, or if you’re in a wheelchair.  They don’t care if you find it difficult to communicate or how much money your family has.  They simply accept you and love you.  For many of the children visiting the Adventure Farm, this may be the first time they have received such unconditional love.  This is just one of the ways in which the charity opens up a whole new world to these very special children.

Each year the Adventure Farm must raise in the region of £1 million and to do this they rely entirely on voluntary contributions and the support of their community. For more information about their work please visit www.caft.co.uk or call one of their fantastic fundraisers on 01565 830 053.

Together we can change the lives of these amazing children from our region.  Together we can make a difference.
